Sadly, our beloved Gregg passed away on May 19th, 2024, peacefully and with his wife and daughters by his side at Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound, ON.

 

Loved by, and loving husband of Lindsay and Dad of Marie and Hazel. Beloved son of Patsy (Kent) and Graham (the late Sue). Loved brother of Shawn, Doug (Wendy) and step-sister Shelly (John). Loved son-in-law of Walter (the late Madeleine) and brother-in-law of Matt (Cassie) and Graham. Gregg will be fondly remembered by his nieces Sienna, Lucy and Amelia, and nephews River and Soren, as well as numerous other dear family members and friends.

 

Gregg was born in Montreal, QC, and raised in Port Coquitlam, BC. Gregg’s sharp mind and aptitude to quickly comprehend and utilize information was notable throughout his entire life and to anyone who spent time with him. At the age of three, he surprised his family by learning to read simply by watching Sesame Street. His curiosity and insatiable love of learning guided him all the way to obtaining a PhD in Materials Engineering from McGill University after attaining a BASc in Metallurgical Engineering from UBC.

 

Gregg began his career in Toronto in the nuclear energy industry. The last six years of his life saw him found a nuclear engineering consulting company, NPX, with three close friends. NPX quickly grew and succeeded, which was a source of great pride for Gregg. However, Gregg’s greatest pride was always his family and, specifically, his children, Marie and Hazel.

 

Gregg was a fun and loving Dad, always making time to answer any question Marie or Hazel asked, and he would stoke their curiosity at every opportunity. There was no need for Google or an encyclopedia when Gregg was present. He was his family and colleagues’ go-to guy for understanding or learning anything regardless of the topic. His impressive recall and ability to simplify the most complicated ideas were unique. It often felt like Gregg was on a different level than others in terms of intelligence, knowledge, wisdom, and perspective. He was unassuming and gentle, and will be affectionately remembered by family, friends, and colleagues for his kindness and quiet confidence.

 

The family wishes to thank all the healthcare professionals who supported and cared for Gregg, from the paramedics to the nurses to the surgeons, with a special thank you to Dr. Musngi and Dr. Barfoot for their exceptional care and compassion.

 

Gregg’s family and friends are organizing a fundraising event to celebrate Gregg’s life and continue his legacy to support three foundations that were important to him: Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Bruce North Huron. The event is being held at Lakeview Recreation at 1177 Goderich Street in Port Elgin, ON, on July 22nd from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
