All in Ontario Challenge raises $30,000 for local communities

Digital fundraising program in partnership between Bruce Power and NPX Innovation

TIVERTON, ON – January 12, 2021

In partnership with Bruce Power, Nuclear Promise X and the Nuclear Innovation Institute launched a digital fundraising program in July to help revitalize and rebuild local communities through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The All in Ontario Challenge was accessible through the partnership’s Grey-Bruce-Huron Strong website and app, and encouraged businesses, organizations and individuals to donate an item or experience and then challenge others to do the same.

In total, more than 50 local businesses, municipalities and individuals donated auction items, raising $30,000 in support of local community groups.

“The response to the All in Ontario Challenge from local businesses, organizations and community members was truly outstanding,” said John Peevers, Bruce Power’s Director of Community and Media Relations, and Economic Development. “Thanks to the engagement from the community, we are able to support many local organizations that have lost major fundraising opportunities due the pandemic.”

Fifty per cent of the funds raised from the online silent auctions will be shared by the United Ways of Bruce Grey and Huron Perth. The remaining half will be shared equally among charitable organizations in Grey, Bruce and Huron counties that impact relief from poverty, advancement of education, and community betterment.

“We were so glad to be a part of the All in Ontario Challenge,” said Bharath Nangia, President & CEO of Nuclear Promise X. “Local charitable organizations have been hit hard this year, and this initiative helps provide some much-needed relief.”

“When we come together as a community and put people first, it’s amazing the difference it makes,” added Francesca Dobbyn, Executive Director, United Way of Bruce Grey.

In support of the Be a Light campaign, Bruce Power and NPX relaunched Grey-Bruce-Huron Strong, the app and website that was created as a resource for connecting people and businesses in the three counties. The website and app now feature the Be a Light portal for community connection, celebration and support. There are numerous virtual events planned, such as free online fitness classes with local instructors, weekly conversation cafes, arts and crafts classes, mindfulness sessions, photo and art contests, and more.
